PMU vs Traditional Makeup:  which one is right for you?

Don’t you just hate it when you spend so much time perfecting your makeup only for it to smudge, smear, or fade away in just a few hours?

It can be frustrating and time-consuming to constantly have to reapply your makeup throughout the day. But what if there was a way to get flawless, long-lasting makeup without having to worry about smudging or smearing? This is where permanent makeup comes in!

Permanent makeup, also sometimes known as microblading or cosmetic tattooing, has become increasingly popular over the years. It involves the use of a needle to inject pigments into the skin, creating a look that can last anywhere from one to five years!

But how does permanent makeup compare to traditional makeup? Is it worth the investment? Here are some things to consider when deciding which option is right for you.

  • Time: If you’re someone who is always on the go and doesn’t have much time for makeup application, then permanent makeup may be a good option for you. It can save you time in your daily routine since you won’t have to apply makeup every morning. Traditional makeup, on the other hand, requires daily application and touch-ups throughout the day.

  • Cost: Permanent makeup can be a significant investment, but it can also save you money in the long run since you won’t have to purchase traditional makeup products. However, traditional makeup may be more cost-effective upfront, especially if you already have a makeup collection and only need to replace products as they run out.

  • Customization: When I was a freelance makeup artist years ago, I loved how traditional makeup allowed for more customization in terms of colors, textures, and finishes. There’s no limit to the creative looks you can create! With permanent makeup, you’re limited to the colors and shapes that can be created through tattooing. This may not be ideal for someone who likes to experiment with different makeup looks.

  • Comfort: It’s often assumed that permanent makeup is going to hurt, but a well-trained professional will use numbing cream to minimize any pain or discomfort. Many of my clients fall asleep during their appointments at my studio in West Jordan, Utah! Traditional makeup, on the other hand, can feel heavy or uncomfortable on the skin, especially during hot or humid weather.

  • Maintenance: While permanent makeup does require touch-ups over time, it still requires less maintenance than traditional makeup. Traditional makeup needs to be reapplied throughout the day, and it may smudge or fade away in certain conditions, such as water or sweat exposure.

In the end, the decision between permanent makeup and traditional makeup depends on personal preferences and lifestyle. If you value convenience and long-lasting makeup, then permanent makeup may be the right choice for you. However, if you enjoy experimenting with different makeup looks and textures, then traditional makeup may be a better fit.

At the end of the day, it's important to remember that both permanent and traditional makeup have their pros and cons, and it ultimately comes down to what makes you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin.
